INPEX has been supplying natural gas to domestic consumers since the 1950s. From the 2010s, in response to growing natural gas demand, we have been re-gasifying LNG produced from overseas projects, including the Ichthys LNG project in Australia, at our Naoetsu LNG Terminal in Japan. We blend this gas with domestic gas we produce and supply it to consumers in the Kanto, Koshinetsu, and Hokuriku regions. Today, we are working to strengthen our natural gas supply structure through pipeline reinforcement and other measures. We are also actively promoting the transition to natural gas, which has superior environmental characteristics, and the pursuit of business focused on new customer needs and societal issues, such as real CO2-free carbon offset gas aimed at reducing environmental impact.
INPEX's Supply Network
INPEX uses its natural gas trunk pipeline network with a total length of approximately 1,500 km to supply natural gas to city gas companies and factories along the pipeline routes.
Gas Wholesale Business (to City Gas Companies)
We wholesale gas to city gas companies of various sizes in the Kanto-Koshinetsu, Hokuriku, and Tohoku regions, covering one metropolitan area and ten prefectures, which constitutes one of the largest supply areas in Japan.
Through these city gas companies, we are able to supply natural gas stably to a wide range of users, including households, commercial users (such as supermarkets and hospitals), and industrial users (such as factories).
Furthermore, through coordination agreements with local governments, we are supporting efforts by city gas companies to meet the expectations and needs of their communities.
Gas Retail Business (to Large-Scale Factories)
Our gas retail business targets large-scale factories, primarily in the Kanto-Koshinetsu and Hokuriku areas. We sell natural gas to large-scale factories and other consumers along our own natural gas pipeline routes.
The use of gas is wide-ranging, not only as a heat source fuel but also for power generation, cogeneration, production of chemicals, air conditioning, etc. For consumers who want to introduce natural gas for industrial use, we are actively supporting the gasification of factories through the construction of new pipelines.

Response to New Natural Gas Marketing Needs
~ Marketing of Substantially CO2-Free Carbon Offset Gas ~
Carbon offsetting is the act of compensating for the amount of greenhouse gases emitted from economic activities that are difficult to reduce through the purchase of carbon credits and other methods. Our company, in order to contribute to the realization of the carbon-neutral society by 2050 that the Japanese government is striving for, started this practice in 2021 and markets natural gas and carbon credits as a set to city gas companies and factories, etc., as carbon offset gas.
Specifically, through this initiative, we offset greenhouse gases emitted in all processes from the production of natural gas in our own operated Ichthys LNG project and domestic gas fields to consumption, meaning we are providing practically CO2-free gas supply, and are actively contributing to the carbon neutral response of consumers.
